Overtime, it has naturalized in moister areas of Europe and North America as a roadside weed. Mullein has been used as a remedy for respiratory problems like cough, bronchitis & asthma. Externally, it is used for earaches, middle ear infections and insect bites.
-Mullein relieves upper respiratory congestion by soothing injured areas of the mouth and throat. It also contains compounds that act on the central nervous system to move mucus out of the body.
-In Germany, mullein flowers are steeped in warm olive oil with garlic cloves then strained to make a remedy for ear infections. It notably coats and soothes the inner lining of the ear, making it a useful treatment in managing pain caused by inflammation.
